How is the recession affecting you?

Times are tough these days. People are losing their jobs, their homes, their retirement funds. We have been pretty lucky. We don't own..we rent. Our house is paid off. The owners use our rent to pay property taxes..not a mortgage. We have always rented though. A house purchase several years ago gone very bad, left us basically with no savings. We have also been a one income family for about the same amount of years. So, those two things added in with alot of student loans have left us struggling to get a mortgage. We can obtain one, just not enough to get a home for six people. High gas prices did push us to move over the summer and eliminate a car. My husband now bikes to work and our house is smaller than the previous one. We have also cut back on Christmas this year. We are only buying small gifts for our kids, their teachers and our parents. I just wonder if this is affecting as many people as it seems to be.

Is the recession affecting your family? If so, how? What are you doing to cut back?

The economy has really effected us too. We have cut back a lot on Christmas gifts and the things we are doing this Christmas.
We are trying to pay cash for everything to avoid running up the charge card. That is hard because everything is so costly, that you run out of cash quickly.
Hopefully, something is going to be done to help!!!
