Work relationships

It's been almost 5 years since I have worked in an office environment and I must admit I miss it a lot. I am a people person and LOVE chatting with others. I have always done customer service and really miss talking with so many people everyday. The one thing I miss the most is the many people who I befriended in my many years of working there. Not only in my office, but, out other offices in North America. When you work closely with people for 40+ hours a week, you tend to build a relationship with them. Allot of times you find yourself using their shoulder to cry on or sharing good news. I remember when I told my dept. I was pregnant, everyone was so excited. They all saw the daily struggle I faced in trying to get pregnant and when I did, they were truly excited. They shared my fears when I was struggling for my life and showed their support. I tried to stay in touch, but, it's tough. You get into your daily routine and so do they. It's almost sad how fast a relationship can fall to the wayside.

At my current job, I only work part time and really only work with two women a day. One much older, one much younger...how could we pull a friendship from this. All of us were so different in our lives, who we were and what got us to this point. The longer I have worked with these two people, I am learning just how special both are. Not only them, but, everyone that works there. I may only see some of the people for brief periods, but, never the less they have all touched my life.

We had our Christmas Party yesterday evening and I left feeling so good. I felt lucky to be a part of such a great group of people, all who have very special qualities. I feared when I left my old job, that I would never have this again. I am so lucky! My co-workers have been there for me from little things as sharing snacks to huge things like, taking care of my daughter when my other daughter went to the ER.

Unfortunately, we are losing one of our co-workers to cancer and this has taken an emotional toll on all of us. She is the leader of our group and it's just very hard to take. Last night she was missed at the Christmas party, but, she was not forgotten. We all wrote little notes to her on how much to means to us and how she has touched our lives. This gesture was just one of the caring things the younger of the two would do for just about anyone who needs help or just a little hope in their lives.

During this Christmas Season, I am not only thankful for my family & my friends, but, very much thankful for the good people I work with. I guess they fall into the "friends" category... but with a special "thanks".

Do you have a special friend that work brought you together? Is your work opposite, do you despise everyone who you see everyday? Share your thoughts
