Each year in the Summer, we have a "mild" ant problem. It started the Summer after we moved in and we just figured it was the area. It was never a huge problem, however, last Summer it seemed to get quite worse.
A few weeks ago the girls started to notice ants in the kitchen and more than normal for this time of year. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like hundreds, just like a few here and there. I figured it was the cat food in the kitchen, so I moved it upstairs. It didn't seem to resolve the problem and it seemed like it was getting worse, so we decided to call Terminix. We would take care of the problem before the Summer comes and it gets really bad.
I called them on Thursday evening and was happy they could come the next day, however, at the time I didn't realize how lucky I was that I called. When the technician came, he walked the perimeter of the house and said "I think I found your problem." I went outside and just to the right of my patio down the entire length of my house...millions of ants!! It was so gross! He said he had never seen this many ants during this time of year. I felt so icky! He asked when I got my patio and said the ants could have come from the sand. He just wondered if we had the problem before we got the patio, however, we got the patio just as we moved in so we had never had a summer without it. I told him we just figured it was the area and paid no attention. I am so glad we called. He used 20 gallons of ant killer and termite killer to get rid of all the ants and colonies. He said from the looks of the length and the amount of ants, it may have went down 10 feet!! So gross!!! He sprayed inside and found the area they were coming in and sprayed a ton of stuff there too. Within seconds all of the ants were dead. I know I keep saying this, but, GROSS!!!!
Thankfully, he didn't find ants anyplace else and we'll have to keep on this problem for as long as we own the home. Yeah...it's so fun to be a homeowner! I am glad they are gone and the girls are beyond glad. Every time they saw a tiny, little ant they screamed and ran. I will say, it was getting to be much and can't even imagine what the summer would have brought.
Thank God for Terminix and don't ever under estimate a "small" bug problem.
