Today I had to buy special cat litter for Felix so he wouldn't get an infection in his toes...$20 plus later I am realizing my "free cat" is far from free.
Between all of the vet appointments, vaccines, tests, surgery, micro chip and "special litter", this cat has cost us well over $1000!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Felix a lot and so happy he is in our home. He has made the past few months really fun, however, a cat or kitten from the shelter would have done the trick too. Not only would the cost be around $75-200 to adopt a kitten, depending on where you get him, but, all of his vaccines would have been done, as well as being spayed/neutered.
I guess my point of this post...adopt / rescue your next pet!!! It's cheaper and most definitely will save an animal from being euthanized. If you have friends or family that has a new litter of animals, encourage them to donate them to a animal welfare or a shelter. They will get a good home and in the long run, it will be cheaper. Kittens and puppies of any kind almost always get adopted and places would almost want babies in their location to get more traffic, which would help with adoption of the older pets!
Just a thought...
